Please Don't Sniff / The Knives

from Body Snatchers by Psychiatric Metaphors

lyrics

A selective hope came over me as I watched the knife balance in gravity's feeble grasp
Dangling and teetering on the edge of certain and formidable failure
She approached the counter with a hunter's gaze
Separated from empathy, her cold hand caressed the knife as I stared blankly

I find myself getting more and more nervous with each passing season
Longing for the existence of an oil filled diorama of my apartment
She whispered in my ear a scream that said
The animals don't need us
And the plants will soon take over

Smell her knife, and watch as existence melts off the woman in front of you
Waiting in the lobby dressed in red
As the congregation funneled to the elevators
A crimson carpet beneath your feet
As the concierge rings up another guest, your eyes align

Suspecting an illusionary instance of time floating shallowly above the ocean puddle
Why must this exist
Why must I take part in this
Why are you doing this? you might ask
He yelled back at the mirror as a crowd gathered beneath the operating table
A human baby, a fresh slab of consciousness

Exiting the lobby, stepping into the street
You cry out for a reason
Forgiveness is far from grasp
And the semi-truck carrying your future is barreling down on the entrance of the hospital
Say goodbye to your life
And watch the sunset through your fading consciousness

Waiting for the first signal to take the exit on the left
Oh why must time have a stranglehold on me
Is this hell
We may never know
